Roads in Rajasthan

Rajasthan has a lot to offer to the tourist. Heritage, culture, tradition, art, designs, food are a few of the items in the bouquet. Another great thing about Rajasthan is the wide, pot hole free roads. I recently travelled to Ajmer, Pushkar, Udaipur, and Chittaurgarh with my family and we did not come across bad roads even once, not even in the market places or the narrow streets of old Udaipur. Here are pictures of some of the roads:

A road in Pushkar around the lake. Even though it has all of the miseries of the regular market roads, such as stray cows, randomly parked vehicles, hawkers, and encroachment, the road itself is smooth and levelled.

This is the road from Pushkar to Ajmer. The terrain is mostly hilly and the valley is scenic. The drive is all of 15 minutes that seem even shorter owing to the vivid landscape around.

This is the road from Ajmer to Chittaurgarh. A relatively new road, the stretch is mostly deserted. You only come across a few cars and some trucks on this 186 kms long road. There is no food available on the roadside so carry some along.

The marvellous road from Haldigati to Udaipur boasts of blue skies and yellow-colored hills. The contrast is so magnificient that it is surreal.

Many of the hills are yellow because of the color of the mud. Others attain almost the same color because of dried up grass. The sky is deep blue and the air is clean. There is little or no traffic during the day.

Note how the yellow hills contrast against the deep blue skies. It was a sight worth capturing.
