Here are few photographs from my toy-train experience between Shimla and Kalka. It takes 7 hrs to reach Kalka from Shimla if you choose to go by Himalayan Queen. Check out photographs below and you will appreciate the time spend during this journey...
Toy train crosses various mountains, rivers, tunnels and bridges to reach Kalka.
For those, who prefer to explore beauty of nature on their travel to India, I think the beautiful hill state of Himachal Pradesh is the right place for them. The state is gifted with superb natural beauty . It is the land where snow-capped mountain peaks of mighty Himalayas touch the clear blue sky.
It is a land where meadows of colorful wild flowers lure the tourists and make the environment enjoyable with their sweet fragrance.
As we cross Tara Devi, suddenly environment changes with new colors... Pine Tree instead of Deodars... Comparitively less green hills and so on.... But thats special about this journey where travelers start from very high hills covered with Deodars and then it changes to small hills with pine tree and then plains... These Toy trains are very well maintained by Indian Railways...
The rail route has 107 tunnels but the train passes through 103 tunnels, big and small. The toy trains cross the longest tunnel at Barog in 3 minutes. Besides the Barog tunnel, other 3 big tunnels on this route are Koti - 2,276 feet, Taradevi - 1,615 feet and Tunnel no. 103 - 1,135 feet.
The rail track rises from Kalka at 640m to the freezing zones of Shimla at 2,060 m. A tour from Kalka to Shimla is just amazing. The toy train twists its way gradually through the hills up to the alpine, approaching of the demeaning Himalayas. Through the way some of the awesome views of the landscape can be cherished at Kushalya River, Koti, Barog, Kanoh, Jabli ...
Dense fog welcoming us after longest tunnel of Barog... Before this, it was hot due to harsh sun light... Everyone in our train was very excited after this but it became boring when we were not able to see anything around us....
During this journey, weather changed suddenly after crossing the longest tunnel of Barog. It are bollywood style change where you feel like magic ... It was very difficult to see the things around us... After some time, this mist entered into the train and we were not able to see faces sitting on third seat @ the distance to 12 feets approximately...
A view of Shimla Town from Tara Devi Railway Track... During this visit, I stayed in New Shimla which is very well planned region and Shimla really needs better planning in future..
Mustard fields on the way to Kalka through Toy-Train from Shimla. This has been shot near Solan which is a district headquarter of Himachal pardesh and a beautiful valley. Solan is well developed distrcit in terms of Education, research and industrial development...
Himachal Pradesh is a perfect destination for tourists who love to see nature at its best.
