The Golden Gate bridge connects San Francisco to Marin County and was completed in the year 1937. At that time, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. The bridge is known as the Golden Gate bridge because it spans the Golden Gate, or the Opening of the San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean. It has become the symbol of San Francisco over the years.
The clear blue sea and the yachts cruising on the surface present a stark contrast to the red bridge. It is as beautiful as a painting. Almost dreamy!! I could have stood there for hours.
Here is the cross-section of the suspension cables used in the bridge. It is 36.5 inches wide containing 27,572 wires. This explains the strength.
Also on the south side is a well manicured lawn for sight-seeing. The maintenance is commendable and looks as if all of this was built yesterday.
Also dotting the lawns were pretty flowers. The scenery was mazing with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.
And finally, a night shot from the North Side.
