The Newcastle Quayside is dotted with some very beautiful bridges over the Tyne. I recently took a walk to photograph all. Here are some pictures
Let us first start with the Millenium Bridge. The bridge changes colors at night. From purple, to pink, to red, to green, to blue and even rainbow. However, this in my opinion is the second most beautiful bridge over the Tyne in Newcastle. And this picture was not taken during the walk. It was taken much earlier in 2010.
When I started walking on the Quayside from my office in the Newcastle Business Park to the Millenium Bridge, this was the first bridge I came across. A very tall, concrete structure, mostly unspectacular except for some graffiti at a place that didn't seem possible for humans to reach.
This was the first railway bridge I came across. It wasn't too far away from the concrete bridge. In fact you can see the concrete one in the background.
The third bridge which is mostly for the metro I think. I like the color. But in the distance, you can already see the more beautiful bridges approaching. However, I patiently stood their take this picture of the metro passing through it.
A path for the pedestrians and cyclists along the river. It is quite safe and you can see people of all age groups jogging here.
And now the train crossing the railway bridge. This was a 'proper' train and not a metro.
The fourth bridge known as the High-Level Bridge. This is spectacular as the metro runs on the top while buses run through it. This will feature more prominently in another story soon.
Now comes the fifth bridge also known as the Swing bridge which as the name suggests swings. I like the colours, but this is still not the best looking bridge over Tyne
Now we come to the best looking bridge, appropriately called The Tyne Bridge.. I love its colors and shape and I think this adds a lot of character to the Tyne side. Also, this is home to a huge colony of gulls known as the Kittiwake owing to their calls.
The swing bridge facing the neighbouring city Gateshead.
