This year during April, Assam Association Delhi organized Rongali Bihu Festival 2011 by @ Indira Gandhi National Center of Arts, New Delhi, INDIA and here are some of the photographs from Semi-Classical performance by Bidisha during the evening...
Bidisha is the performer here and she is performing a semi classical dance on Pulok banerjee's song 'Phulore Melate'
This song was beautiful as the performer is !!! I have added song in the bottom of this post, so just play it and enjoy with dance steps of Bidisha ...
Expressions of this dance form were awesome and not sure if credit should go to Dancer Performer of Dance form itself :) .. But in my opinion mix of both did a great job during Bihu Festival !!!
Various types of Expressions made this dance more interesting...
Bidisha is weraing Mekhela Sadar here !!! Mekhela Sadar was again a beautiful attire with awesome expressions of the dancers on Fantastic Music in the background !!!
Traditionally muga(special silk of assam) is used to make mekhela - sadar (equivalent of Saree in Assam) for girls and kurtas for boys. Till date it is considered to be the most sophisticated attire in Assam.
Loved this expression ...
Muga silk is one of the many natural gift to Assam. The specialty of this silk is that it has golden bright color. "Muga" is derived from the Assamese word 'muga' meaning yellowish. It is superior in every respect from the normal white silk available all over the world. This silk is much more durable than the normal one. And interestingly it's brightness improves with every wash while the normal silk has to be very carefully washed. Apart from normal dressings, it is used in other furnishing and decoration stuff too. Muga clothes are so durable that it can be used for decades. Muga Silk is supposed to be one of the costliest fabrics in the whole world.
Most of the dance performances were different and better than other in one of other sense... Each of them had different energy level and had different kind of music...
Are you ready to fight :)
After posting some of the photographs from this evening in April, I got to know about few performers of this festival and many of them perform at International Levels...
The Performer of Sattriya Dance, Mridusmita Das had recently gone to UK for various performances in Wales and other countries...
This festival was really an eye opener for me, when I got to know about the rich culture of Assam...
And surely I shall be attending more such events in future to know more about Assam and it's rich culture... Hope I will also get a chance to explore Assam Land soon !!!
By looking at the response from crowd, it seemed that Bidisha was very popular performer among the people there :) ... The claps during the end were non-stop....
And how can I forget to add that Assam's Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi was present during the performance with her wife, who had traveled from Assam to Delhi to attend Rongali Bihu Festival....
Don't forget to listen to the song on which Bidisha is performing in these Photographs...
