Black & White Squares from South Asian Bands Festival 2012 at Old Fort, Delhi (INDIA)|| 7th- 9th December

Last week was full of music in Delhi and Old Fort was shining with musical talents and appreciators all around. The South Asian Bands Festival 2012 happened between 7th Dec to 9th Dec and it's presented by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in collaboration with Ministry of External Affairs & SEHER. I also visited the festival on 9th for some time and here is a quick Photo Journey from Old Fort...South Asian Bands Festival remains one of the most awaited music festivals in the country and Delhi crowd welcomes these bands with full enthusiasmThe ICCR was founded in 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and since then, the presentation of foreign cultural programs in different parts of the country has been an integral part of its work. Working in collaboration with ICCR is SEHER , which has been synonymous with thoughtful and imaginative initiatives in the sphere of painting and sculpture, theatre and dance, music, literature and cinema. While India is being represented by the famous Bollywood singer-composer Clinton Cerejo who has films like Vicky Donor, Saat Khoon Maaf, Wake Up Sid, Ishqiya, Rock On, Yuvraaj etc  Nasya from New Delhi performed on first day of South Asian Bands Festival 2012 !!! Nasya is a fusion rock band based in Delhi. Playing a blend of Sufi, Haryanvi and Punjabi Folk and rock influences, they are not your typical fusion band. Tough On Tobacco from Mumbai began in 2007 with the sole intention of making music for music’s sake. Noori  from Pakistan also performed on 7th December only. Noori is a rock band from Lahore, in Punjab region of Pakistan. Since beginning there had been many changes in the line-up the only consistent members being, brothers, Ali Noor and Ali Hamza. The band are considered as one of the pioneering forces behind what is dubbed at the '21st Century pop revolution of Pakistan'.E-Sa And His Troupe from Maldives | Digital Suicide  from Shillong which is an Electro Rock Band from North East India performed on 8th december. Other bands from same includes Shkabang  from Mumbai, Blaze  from Myanmar and  Shaair + Func from Mumbai. Shaa’ir and func is considered one of India’s most successful bands in the Indie music community, for having accomplished more than most bands twice their age.  They won the Jack Daniel Rock Awards for Best Vocalist two years in a row, and Album of The Year, with nominations for Song of the Year as well.  Souls from Bangladesh, which is a pop music band, was established in Chittagong, and later moved to Dhaka. Former members include Tapan Chowdhury, Ayub Bachchu, Nakib Khan, Naseem Ali. Formed in 1972, it is one of the oldest pop bands in Bangladesh and has performed more than 4,000 concertsThriloka from Sri Lanka is a fusion band has been entertaining local audiences since 2006, delivering an innovative blend of traditional Sri Lankan folk music, Indian raga, jazz and rock.On Sunday, 9th December 2012, Bands like 'The Likens' from Bhutan performed and I witnessed this performance. The Likens are one of the earliest bands in Bhutan, based in Thimphu, and formed in the year 1996. The band is a well known Glam Hard Rock Bhutanese band. They have a number of original songs Charo chang, Drukyul naa, Walk on, Sons of the hills are some of them. The band mainly writes songs on serious issues but doesn’t mind exploring the lighter sides of life.District Unknown  from Afghanistan, Galeej Gurus from Bengaluru, Jindabaad from Nepal and Clinton Cerejo from Mumbai performed on last day of South Asian Bands Festival 2012.

Souls from Bangladesh, which is a pop music band, was established in Chittagong, and later moved to Dhaka. Former members include Tapan Chowdhury, Ayub Bachchu, Nakib Khan, Naseem Ali. Formed in 1972, it is one of the oldest pop bands in Bangladesh and has performed more than 4,000 concerts.

Thriloka from Sri Lanka is a fusion band has been entertaining local audiences since 2006, delivering an innovative blend of traditional Sri Lankan folk music, Indian raga, jazz and rock.

Last week was full of music in Delhi and Old Fort was shining with musical talents and appreciators all around. The South Asian Bands Festival 2012 happened between 7th Dec to 9th Dec and it's presented by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in collaboration with Ministry of External Affairs & SEHER. It was 6th South Asia Bands Festival in India. The festival featured fifteen popular rock bands from across nine nations of the sub-continent. While India is being represented by the famous Bollywood singer-composer Clinton Cerejo who has films like Vicky Donor, Saat Khoon Maaf, Wake Up Sid, Ishqiya, Rock On, Yuvraaj etc  Nasya from New Delhi performed on first day of South Asian Bands Festival 2012 !!! Nasya is a fusion rock band based in Delhi. Playing a blend of Sufi, Haryanvi and Punjabi Folk and rock influences, they are not your typical fusion band. Tough On Tobacco from Mumbai began in 2007 with the sole intention of making music for music’s sake. Noori  from Pakistan also performed on 7th December only. Noori is a rock band from Lahore, in Punjab region of Pakistan. Since beginning there had been many changes in the line-up the only consistent members being, brothers, Ali Noor and Ali Hamza. The band are considered as one of the pioneering forces behind what is dubbed at the '21st Century pop revolution of Pakistan'.E-Sa And His Troupe from Maldives | Digital Suicide  from Shillong which is an Electro Rock Band from North East India performed on 8th december. Other bands from same includes Shkabang  from Mumbai, Blaze  from Myanmar and  Shaair + Func from Mumbai. Shaa’ir and func is considered one of India’s most successful bands in the Indie music community, for having accomplished more than most bands twice their age.  They won the Jack Daniel Rock Awards for Best Vocalist two years in a row, and Album of The Year, with nominations for Song of the Year as well.
