Today various Photography Communities across the world are celebrating World Photography day and similarly various enterprises are celebrating the day with relevant folks. In India, World Photography Day is also celebrated in very special ways. Many folks choose this day to inaugurate their exhibitions | Some communities plan to meet with some special agendas along with Photo-Walks/workshops etc. This Photo Journey is sharing some latest celebration trends and how companies like Google are making best use of these special occasions.
Last year, on World Photography Day, almost every Photography Group came together to have a mega Photo-Walk to celebrate the great day. It was really great to see different groups come together to celebrate the main theme by keeping all conflicts on other side.
Various enterprises have started celebrating World Photography Day in BIG way. This year, Google is organized a huge event in Mumbai and many of the Photographers/Photo-Bloggers are invited from different parts of the country. Due to some reasons PHOTO JOURNEY could not join the event. The Photography Master Raghu Rai was there for opening and shared opening keynotes with interesting details about Photography.
On same lines, many other companies organized events in virtual world of Social media. E.g.- Evernote is running Photo contest on twitter #EvernoteShutterbugs and many other companies are doing one or other thing to engage with relevant folks associated with Photography in one or another way.
World Photography Day originates from the invention of the Daguerreotype, which is a photographic processes developed by Joseph Nicèphore Nièpce and Louis Daguerre. On January 9, 1839, The French Academy of Sciences announced the daguerreotype process. A few months later, on August 19, 1839, the French government announced the invention as a gift 'Free to the World'. Another photographic processes, the Calotype, was also invented in 1839 by William Fox Talbot (it was announced in 1841). Together, the invention of both the Daguerreotype and Calotype mark 1839 as the year that photography was invented.

Such occasions are very important to make communities strong and establish healthy relations. Personally I know at least 10 big events happening today including free workshops, photo-walks & Exhibition inaugurations etc.
Today my plan is to visit APEX Photography Academy in Vasant Kunj for inauguration ceremony of Photography Exhibition by Diploma students. This institution and it's talented students are really close to my heart. I taken some sessions for this batch on Post-Processing and general Digital Imaging fundamentals. At the same time I learned a lot from these students.
During evening, plan is to have dinner with one of the biggest encouragement of my life - Vibha !
Hope you also have some special plans for the day and we wish you a very happy World Photography Day 2013 !!!
