Few Months back Smriti was in Udaipur and I got a chance to look at her photographs from this visit. I requested Smriti to share about the place and her overall experience with Travellingcamera viewers. For a long time, it was not happening so I thought of sharing this photo journey, which speaks a lot without words and I would try to share some details I could gather from Smriti during our recent conversation. Let's check out this Photo Journey from one of the most popular tourist destinations in Rajasthan, India.
Udaipur is a very good weekend option for folks who don't mind travelling during night, otherwise you may want to take an extra off to explore the pace well. Even 3 days are not enough to explore it completely but one can have real sense about the city, it's related history and impact on the culture.
Udaipur is popularly known as the City of Lakes in Rajasthan state of India. This city is located in western part of the country and it recommended to visit during winters because it's very hot during summers. In fact, good time is Oct/Nov or Jan/Feb.
Udaipur City is located around 400 km from Jaipur. Jaipur is capital city of Rajasthan State and Udaipur being a district headquarter is also big is size. Udaipur is the
historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar in the former Rajputana Agency.
The Sisodia clan of Rajputs ruled Mewar and its capital was shifted
from Chittorgarh to Udaipur after founding city of Udaipur by Maharana
Uday Singh.
The Mewar province was not part of Rajasthan state before independence of India.
Apart from its history, culture, and beautiful
locations, Udaipur is also known for its beautiful palaces built in Rajputana time. The Lake Palace is one of the beautiful places which covers an entire island in the Pichola Lake. Many of these palaces are located around Lake Pichola only. Lake itself is a beautiful place and there are boating options as well. There are few famous eating places around the lake.
Many of the
palaces in Udaipur are converted into luxury hotels, which are run by
major corporates of India and abroad. Udaipur is also known as 'Venice
of the East'...
Visiting SahastraBahu temples is a good option when you are around Udaipur. This is a very old temple which is probably from 10th century. It's a Vishnu Temple. It's funny that many folks call it Saas-Bahu temple :). Sahastrabahu is a sanskrit word which essentially means someone with thousand arms. There are series of temples in this campus which are not well maintained and some parts have converted into ruins. This temple is there is the list of heritage monuments as per Archaeological Survey of India. To know more about this temple check out - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SahastraBahu_Temples
These huge palaces around Lake Pichola make this town more beautiful and right weather convert the place to a dreamland where you want to spend rest of your life as king :)
Lake
Pichola, Fateh Sagar Lake, Udai Sagar and Swaroop Sagar in Udaipur are the most beautiful lakes in Rajasthan.
