Recently a White Bindi campaign has launched against child Marriage in India and it's known as 'No Child Brides'. There are some cool plans to take this forward and here are quick glimpses. Some of the photographs shared in this Photo Journey are clicked at Kala Ghoda Festival Mumbai, few shots from cyber hub gurgaon and rest from Lakme Fashion Week. Tarun Tahiliani supported the cause by using white bindi in the show. Let's check out the Photo Journey and know more about this initiate.
While checking out these photographs don't miss the WHITE BINDIs.
Child Marriage is a bad reality that India lives with. Approximately, 24 million young Indian girls have been forced into marriage, accounting for 40% of the total child brides in the world. Some reports suggest that 1 in every 2 Indian brides is less than 18. These are no small numbers, and the trajectory is not changing anytime soon.
UN Human Rights Council brought the first ever global resolution on the child marriage problem in 2013. They stressed on making it an international development agenda post 2015. The resolution was supported my 107 countries including almost all the countries with high rates of underage marriage (Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Yemen, Chad etc.)
'No Child Brides' is an initiative to highlight the issue of child marriage which still looms over our society. Through initiative idea is to create widespread awareness of the cause and hope the country acts on the UN resolution by committing to it - like many other countries across the globe.
White bindis are being used to propagate cause. Traditionally, a bindi is believed to protect a woman from demons. Idea is to make white bindi a symbol of protest against child marriage. Community should rise up and support the cause, by simply sporting a white bindi as a mark of protest against the government's perennial inaction on this grave issue.
Tarun Tahliani graciously supported this cause. His entire crew, staff and all the models wore white bindis during the Lakme Fashion Week. It caught the media’s attention, made them curious and most importantly, made them aware of the gravity of the issue. We consider this little step in generating widespread support for this cause.
