Few days back, we were discussing about US trip with friends last year and I realized that Lone Cypress has made a strong impression in my mind. Lone Cypress is a tree around Pebble beach which is standing on a granite hill on 17-mile drive. This tree is a western icon which is popularly known as one of the most photographed trees in North America.
Lone Cypress is visible from the road of 17 Mile Drive around Pacific Ocean. This is just next to Pebble beach. Above photograph shows the man looking at Lone Cyress from 17 Mile Drive Road. A visit to 17 Mile drive is incomplete without taking a halt at this point and witness this miraculous tree. The tree is located between Cypress Point Golf Course and the Pebble Beach Golf Links, which are two of world's most popular golf grounds.
We noticed various interesting trees around this place which were located around the road itself. It seems that Lone Cypress is very old, probably more than 250 years old. Lone cypress tree has been scarred by fire once and held in place with cables for 65 years. The Monterey Cypress grows naturally only in Pebble Beach and Point Lobos.
Lone Cypress, Pebble Beach, lush green Golf Courses, huge villas make 17 Mile drive very special and one should definitely plan for this drive when in California. The other interesting place around 17 Mile drive is Monterey Aquarium.
