If you planned to visit Pong Dam to see Thousands of Migratory birds or planning to visit Masroor's Monolithic Temple, there are quite a few options to stay nearby and here I share two of the tried options in Nagrota Suriyan. Nagrota Suriyan is nearest main market to both these places. Both of these are government stay options - HPPWD Guest House near main market and Forest Guest House, which is 1.5 kilometers from main market of Nagrota Suriyan.
Above photographs show HPPWD Guest House, which has most convenient location (100 meters from one of the corners of Nagrota Suriyan Market). The road just outside the guest house exposes you to amazing views of snow capped himalayas on one side and some part of Pong Dam Lake. There is a lawn in the Guest-House which is very well maintained and again exposes you to amazing Himalayan views.
Here is a photograph clicked from the entry gate of HPPWD Guest House. Rooms of the guest house are quite clean with basic infrastructure. There is a care taken in the guest house, who cooks basic but good food for you. You can ask him to cook something specific. Charges for a room were 320 Rs per day, but I was accompanying a government employee who get booking at discounted dates. But it should be more than 500 Rs now. Need to check on HPPWD website. Check out exact details at - http://hppwd.gov.in/rates%20of%20resthouse.htm
A Photograph of Guest House lawn at HPPWD Rest-House, Nagrota Surian, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.
The second option to stay in Nagrota Suriyan is Forest Guest House, which is 1.5 km away from main market but located at a beautiful location surrounded by green trees, flora and fauna. Please note that photo journey has no photograph of Forest Guest House and it's comparable with HPPWD guest house. Cost-wise I don't have much idea as I was there for one of the birding events organized by Wildlife conservation department, but it should be again between 200-500Rs. More details about about Forest Guest Houses in Himachal can be checked at - http://hpforest.gov.in/pages/display/c2RmYTVhjHdmYTU2cw==-list-of-forest-rest-houses
Before reaching the place I had various some doubts and was not very sure if I would really stay there or would want to move to Kangra or Dharmshala. But after reaching the place, it was of-course above expectations in terms of cleanness, services etc. The guy who takes care of this place was very humble and very helpful in better planning of my days there. Above photograph shows room number-3 of the guest house, which is one of the new rooms here. Room was booked through some officer in HPPWD who knew about these facts :)
Guest House has huge rooms with double bed, sofa or chair set with a table, attached washrooms and Almira. Room Number 3 has nice view of the village and agricultural land around Pong Dam Lake.
This is dining area of HPPWD guest house, which is on ground floor and near to only kitchen. Really good food is served in Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner .
I didn't explore much about home stays, but I am sure that Nagrota region should have few Home-Stays as well. During winters lot of birders come to this place, although many of them head towards Dharmshala/Kangra in the evening.
Feel free to drop comments if you want to know more about this region.
