Few weeks back I was in Himachal for some work and had a chance to meet my school friend Rajeev who is professor at government degree college in Solan. During this quick meeting, we planned to take a ride of Himalayan Queen from Solan to Barog. Barog is next station when we take Himalayan Queen from Solan, towards Kalka. This Photo Journey shares some photographs from this ride and some interesting facts about Barog Railway Station. I am sure that by end of this Photo Journey, you would add Barog as a destination for 1/2 nights when in Himachal Pradesh.
There is a tunnel near to Barog railway station and this tunnel is 1 kilometer long, which is considered as longest tunnel on Kalka-Shimla railway track. Imagine the way this tunnel would have been made in the hills. It's amazing to ride on these toy trains around Shimla Hills. Britishers made this railway line and it's been more than 100 years now.
Most of the railway stations around this narrow gauge railway-line are very beautiful and surrounded by stunning hills. Location of Barog railway station is very beautiful and many folks also come to this place for picnic.
There is a restaurant inside the Railway Station building and some India snack kiosks outside as well. Every toy train stops at Barog Railway station for 10-15 minutes, so that passengers can have some snacks and buy few things to remaining journey.
We also had tea with 'chhole kulche' from one of the kiosks at Barog Railway Station. It was fun to sip the hot tea around chilling hills.
Barog Railway station has retiring rooms which can be booked for night stay and can be booked at quite cheap rates. I couldn't see the rooms from inside, so can't really comment on quality and cleanness. But this is a good place to spend one night and enjoy natural beauty of this place.
Above is the photograph of waiting halls at Barog Railway Station. It was empty when we were there. We went there in last train towards Kalka as well as Shimla. Plan was to trek till road and catch the bus to reach back the city and enjoy local food in dinner. Solan market is quite happening place during evenings and we didn't want to miss the action.
Barog Railway Station is one of the most beautiful railway stations I have seen in India. There are many such small and beautiful railway stations in Himachal Pradesh.
Can you imagine a train running at the speed of 8 kilometers per hour? This is mainly near the railway stations. But it's a common view to see people getting into the train when it's running between the stations on Kalka-Shimla railway line.
After good time at Barog Railway station, we trekked down to the road and took bus to reach Solan town. We crossed through few villages and a beautiful himalayan school.
