It was my 5 years sabbatical when I planned to visit Kinnaur with Aneesh on his new KTM bike. We started our journey from Chandigarh and plan was to take one night break at Jeori which is just on the border of Shimla district and Kinnaur district. We planned to stay in HPPWD rest house which is located on one of the hills of Jeori town. This Post shares about the reasonsing behind staying at Jeori when visiting Kinnaur/Spiti and why this Rest house is a good choice. Here we shall also talk about the right ways to deal with care-takers of the rest-house :).
These guest-houses have usually cleaner and well maintained rooms, because they are frequently used by officers and local MLAs. It costed us 350 Rs per night in 2014. Initially, the care taker was hesitant in giving us a room and we found that he wanted some extra (unaccounted) money. After a long conversation, we could get a room. Be ready with all contact numbers of HPPWD department and in fact you can do advance booking through HPPWD website. If you are not sure that a halt is needed or not, keep some office numbers handy. I have never faced such issue in other regions of Himachal, but don't worry such things are easy to handle.
All above photographs are clicked at Jeori HPPWD guest house which exposes you to brilliant landscapes. Weather is good most of the times. They are also make food for you and it's also quite reasonable. There are other options in market to eat out, so take your own call.
If you are lucky like us, you can see different style wedding in the village around this guest house. This was really a god start of the day when we saw this wedding celebration just outside out guest house :)
Why Jeori makes a good halt on the way to Kinnaur, Kaza or Spiti? Jeori is the place which connects Shimla-Kinnaur highway with Sarahan. The famous Bhimakali temple in Sarhan and amazing views of snow capped hills are very special for folks travelling to this part of Himachal Pradesh. So before starting the next journey, you can plan to visit this beautiful place. If you have full day like us, the great. Otherwise take a tour and move ahead.
To encourage you more, let me share that the 23 kilometer drive from Jeori to Sarahan is full of Orchards of Apples, Pears, Almonds, Walnuts etc.
