Recently I got hold of UE Boom, which is a portable bluetooth speaker. I got to know about these through one of the recordings of CES 2015. Today when I unpacked it and started playing songs through my phone, my mom was surprised that how sound is reaching to these speakers without any wire connecting phone to the speaker. Let's check out this post to know more about these high quality 360 degree speaker and what I like/dislike about these.
When I received the speaker, I was very confused as how to open this cylindrical pack and take a look at the speaker. It took me few minutes to figure out that I had to slide the cylindrical cover down to take out the black pack. I am super impressed with the cover and the way all accessories were fit in this pack.
After unpacking the speaker, I looked the menu which short and useful. In 40 words and few graphics I understood to use the speaker. It's super easy. I just needed to switch on Bluetooth on my phone and press a button on speaker to make it discoverable to the phone. When it's connected, the speaker makes some sound to indicate that you are done. Now I simply played few songs on Youtube (on my phone). Everyone at home was like wow, what a sound. Speaker has clear and good sound quality and we didn't find it very loud. No very loud sound works for me but probably not for many. I thought, maybe it's because of music I am playing. I tried with various songs. It varied but hardly any difference. There is one trick here. If you place the speaker around the wall or corners, it will give lesser sound. If you put in the middle of a room, the sound increases suddenly. Probably that's because of it's 360 degree output. I am yet to try it out in open but with this theory, it seems that sound would be much more outside. Will share this piece of information soon.
My mom is continuously using this speaker with her phone :) . She is enjoying this new cool gadget till I go out for next camping. At first it came as surprise to my mom that how a speaker can work without wires. It took me some time to explain about the bluetooth technology and how UE Boom is making best use of it. For some time, we kept moving around the phone and fixed this speaker. We live in a duplex home and it worked even when I was changing songs from the first floor and speaker was lying on he floor below. It claims to work up to 15 meters away with bluetooth, but I am sure it would also depend upon the other device and it’s bluetooth capabilities.
I am excited to try out it outdoors and it claims to work for 15h after charging which is quite impressive I would say. Although I am equally concerned when I think about 4-5 days long trek. Probably it’ manageable but still ‘ye dil mange more’ :)
