I have visited San Francisco twice and both the times, surfing enthusiasts caught my attention near Golden Gate Bridge. Probably because I haven’t seen surfing at other places. But certainly it’s a brilliant experience to see these surfers crossing through the waves of chilled water. San Francisco is chilly most of the times and the water in the ocean is very cold. One of my friend was recently telling me about weather in SFO. He said, there is only type of seasons in San Francisco – Winters (chilly) or Heavy Winters (very chilled). In fact, this definition goes well with many other places. During my last visit, we noticed kite surfers from Alkatraz ferry. I couldn’t make the video but these folks not only fight against the water tides but also with wind.
Surfing in very interesting sport in which a surfer rides with the waves, while staining on a board. Typically these intense waves are found in the ocean but at times, people practice it in lakes and rivers as well. At times, waves are created with boats which are predictable and better for learning & practicing. In fact, there is a trend of surfing resorts now where novice can come and enjoy surfing under the supervision of professionals. Although it’s hard for me to imagine doing surfing without ant experience.
Kitesurfing looks quite challenging and more interesting. Apart from surfboard, there is a gliders to manage. In this wind power is also used to surf.
It was not planned to visit this part of the ocean and see these surfing expert. I was badly missing a good zoom lens. It would have been more fun to capture the action.
If you are visiting SFO and know surfing, probably it's a good place to network with like minded people and try surfing in the chill.
If you liked this post and found it helpful, I would request you to follow these things when traveling -
- Manage your waste well and don’t litter
- Use dustbins. Tell us if you went to a place and found it hard to locate a dustbin.
- Avoid bottle waters in hills. Usually you get clean water in hills and water bottles create lot of mess in our ecosystem.
- Say big no to plastic and avoid those unhealthy snacks packed in plastic bags. Rather buy fruits.
- Don't play loud blaring music in forests of jungle camps. You are a guest in that ecosystem and disturbing the locals (humans and animals) is not polite
