Dear Friends,
As we wait with baited breath for the ticker to reach the magic figure of 5 Million Views, time is still passing and a lot is happening in the world. In fact, it may not be an overstatement to say that this is the first time our generation is seeing things change at this pace. Be it Brexit or Trump, we are seeing things we have never seen before. Being travellers, we have never really been afraid of change, but we pray to the Travel God to always keep this world convenient, safe, and interesting enough for travellers, because we know that if this happens, it would mean that everyone is living in a world worth calling our own.
Anyways, back to the 5 million views! Phew! That is a huge number. A lot of the credit goes to our guest travellers and our readers, but if we have been able to retain your interest for the past 8 years and our readership has consistently increased, it means that we are doing something right. And we will do our best to keep doing that. If as contributors or readers of Photo Journey you wish to see anything specific on our website or if you feel that we can do better in some area, please feel free to write to us at VJ@travellingcamera.com. We will make sure we address the suggestions.
And now it is time for our monthly round up. Following is a gist of what we have been up to this month:
Travel Stories by Photo Journey's in-house travellers
This month we crossed some state and national borders through our stories. We bring you tales from Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and our favourite place away from home - California. In case missed them, here are the stories:
Stay Option review
This is the one that has been long due. We stayed at Sanman Homestay in January 2016 when we were visiting Jaipur for the Jaipur Literature Festival. There is something about this homestay that will make us go back to it if we plan to visit Jaipur next year too. To find out what it is, read our review here:
Art and Culture
Many of us spend time and money watching movies. But not everyone is fond of plays. However, if you want to see real talent, theatre is the best place. We have watched several plays at NSD and last month we watched a couple at the NSD Summer Theatre Festival. If you are wondering what is the big deal, you have to watch a couple of their plays. Each artist is multi-talented. You will find them acting (of course), singing, dancing on the stage and doing what not. It takes a lot of courage to be able to remember your lines, and deliver them with confidence in front of a large audience, and these artists do it with such grace. They know how to be spontaneous, how to recover from faux pas. And yet most of these artists have their feet firmly on the ground. You can find famous theatre actors sipping chai at the kiosk, sitting in the park chatting with friends. You can approach them and say hello. We have done this many times and are yet to come across an artist who wasn't pleasant to us. In fact, we have made several friends doing this.
Following is a summary of two of the popular plays we watched at the summer festival. Do go through these. Hopefully they will inspire you to go watch some plays.
Guest posts
Here are some really great posts by our guest travellers. Focus this time was of treks. This wasn't by design though. I guess it is the weather and the need to beat the heat.
Travel Community
Continuing our initiative to celebrate the travel and photography communities, we bring to you a list of India bloggers on Instagram who regularly post inspiring travel photograph. Here is the link. Go check out their work.
And finally a reminder. Do keep a look out on our Facebook and Twitter for an announcement as soon as we hit 5 Million Views. There may be a little surprise there.
Thanks,
Vibha
If you liked this post and found it helpful, I would request you to follow these things when traveling -
- Manage your waste well and don’t litter
- Use dustbins. Tell us if you went to a place and found it hard to locate a dustbin.
- Avoid bottle waters in hills. Usually you get clean water in hills and water bottles create lot of mess in our ecosystem.
- Say big no to plastic and avoid those unhealthy snacks packed in plastic bags. Rather buy fruits.
- Don't play loud blaring music in forests of jungle camps. You are a guest in that ecosystem and disturbing the locals (humans and animals) is not polite
