Few months back when I came across William Dalrymple's profile on Instagram, I was impressed to see brilliant photographs by someone who was known as an accomplished writer. I had never imagined that he would be so great with the camera as well. His instagram feed, when compared to other celebrities, is class apart and unique.
This Photo Journey shares some of the photographs clicked by William Dalrymple and also dwells on what makes his Instagram profile so interesting.
First things first, when you start checking his profile, you will read this bizarre introduction - " William Dalrymple - Goatherd and Kabooter baz www.williamdalrymple.uk.com". The world knows William Dalrymple as a historian and writer. His profile does not dwell on what people already know about him. It gives you additional interesting information about him.
Apart from being an awesome Travel Writer, he is also a brilliant photographer. This time, we don't have an interview in this series, but Vibha interviewed him last year and that interview can be checked here.
And there is a reason why I have picked only Jama Masjid photographs from Dalrymple's Instagram feed. These are the photographs which caught my eye when I was going through Jama Masjid photographs on Instagram. And then I discovered that the photographs are clicked by none other than William Dalrymple. Before I knew it I had started navigating through his Insta-feed.
His instagram feed is full of black-and-whites historical photographs. There are pictures of many wall paintings from different parts of the world. As one often senses while reading Dalrymple's books, he is indeed an avid traveller and a brilliant observer.
Carefully notice the compositions of these photographs and you will agree that such perspective is very rare. In some photographs, the composition also tells stories about the place, the people visiting it, and the action that is taking place.
