While walking around Cubbon Park in Banglore, I came across a corner full of kids entering into a game zone. When asked, I got to know that a separate place for kids offers various rides and boating. And just next to it is Government aquarium. A three story building dedicated to different kinds of fishes. This post shares more about the aquarium and why it's a great place to visit with kids.
As mentioned, it's near to the Cubbon park and on the road which connects cubbon park with Science Museum and Art Gallery. So on a weekend you can plan a visit to the Aquarium as well as these wonderful museusms. All these places are nearby and at walkable distance. It hardly takes 5 minutes to reach Science Museum from Aquarium building by walk.
There is entry ticket which costs 5 rs for adults and 2 rs for kids. I never saw such low rates and in fact, Banglore is very tourist friendly place. I didn't encounter anyone stopping people clicking photographs and there are no extra charges for cameras. At least not at the Aquarium, Science Museum and Art Gallery. I remember there are charges for camera at Banergatta National Park. Entry ticket for Science Museum is 40 Rs and for Art Gallery it's 4 Rs. Entry in Science museum is free for students.
After getting ticket, one has to walk up the ramp to reach first floor to see these beauties in different aquariums, which are very well maintained. Every aquarium has stickers indicating the kind of fish and more details about their habitat. I would not put those details here, as I want you to visit the place and enjoy reading those details.
Lot of families visit this place everyday, but it's not very crowded. You can easily walk around and can take your own time to see the place & have some conversation with kids. It was a weekend when I visited, but still there was no queue. It was easy to get ticket and get entry into the aquarium.
Interestingly I met a little girl who visits this aquarium every months and she has kept a diary to track which fish is new addition and what is the change in each aquarium. As per her mom, she has keen interest to know about fishes. and by doing so, she remembers all the names of these fishes. In fact, there are few favourites which are named by her. At times, she gets disappointed if she find less number in a tank. I wanted to click a photograph of her diary and the family, but they denied and I respect their decision. I find it very interesting and inspiring.
These aquarium tanks are spread over 2 floors of this building and ground floor is administrative office.
It was a quick visit and I found it a very interesting place for kids. All kids coming out of the aquarium had special smile on the face and had lot of discuss with their parents or friends.
