We happened to be at DLF Mall of India yesterday night and after roaming around trying to find a jacket for VJ, we were famished. The memory of Lebanese food at Zizo was still fresh in our minds and we decided to try another Lebanese / Turkish outlet. This time we headed to the food court and found this joint called Alaturka, which looked neat and tidy and the staff was eager and pleasant too.
We decided to try one dish first and ordered a Lamb Meat Ball Platter, which had Grilled Meat Balls with Pita Bread and Rice. It is served with three sauces (Hummus, spiced yoghurt, and pepper) and vegetables. However, because of some mix up, we ended up ordering two dishes instead and shelling out close to 700 bucks. Soon the Lamb Meat Ball platter and a Chicken Shawarma Roll were sitting on our table. We had converted the Chicken Shawarma Roll to a platter and it was accompanied by pickled vegetables, French Fries, and a glass of lemonade. We were thankful for this decision. Reason? You will find out later.
Let's talk about the Lamb Meat Ball Platter first. The presentation was okay and the food frankly did not look too appetizing. The Meat Balls and Pita Bread were tough and Chewy. The dips and the vegetables were average. Honestly, we were disappointed. We hadn't expected fresh pita breads, because very few Lebanese outlets bake their own breads, and expecting this from a small joint is unreasonable. However, even packaged pita breads are usually softer than the ones we had at Alaturka.
Coming to the Shawarma Roll Platter. The presentation was as per expectations from a joint in a food court. The rolls themselves lacked flavour. However, the accompaniments - lemonade, fries, and pickled vegetables - were really good. That is why we were glad that we converted the Shawarma Roll to a platter.
In short, the food was not worth the money we spent for it. If you are craving Lebanese / Turkish food, our advice would be to head to Zizo instead. It will cost you a little more, but you will not be disappointed. Read our review of Zizo here.
