While in Bay area, we drove around various places and while driving from Twin Peaks in San Francisco to Half Moon Bay, we came across Devil's Slide Bunker. It's pretty close to Gray Whale Cove beach. During the drive we stopped many times to enjoy these brilliant views. Around Devil’s Slide Bunker, we noticed lot of folks parking their cars and hiking to this place and we were also tempted to see what's there. This post takes you there, so let's start this Photo Journey.
Devil’s Slide Bunker is on Pacific Coast Highway which is also called as California State route 1. Supposedly this is the longest state highway in California, which is 650+ miles. Lot of folks do road trip from San Francisco to San Deigo through some of the main places to explore in California - San Francisco, San Jose , Santa Cruz , Monterey, Big Sur, San Simeon, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Malibu, Los Angeles, Long beach, San Diego.
Devil's Slide Bunker is a graffiti covered remnants of a former triangular station which is situated on one of the peaks in California. There are few parking areas around this peak which are usually full, so you might need to wait a bit to get a parking lot, park the car & start the hike to the peak with Devil's Slide bunker.
This place offers brilliant views of Pacific ocean and it's quite windy here. Although it was summer, but you need to carry a jacket. Devil’s Slide Bunker was built during World War 2, to keep a watch on the sea and notify action teams when there is any enemy. Gradually better technologies came in and this became redundant after 1949.
Since we had to move ahead, we skipped the hike but it seems land around this bunker is with a private owner now, although graffiti artists have figured out ways to ensure that it looks beautiful from distance. Little more details about Devil's Slide bunker are available here.
We spent like 15 minutes around this place and started our drive ahead. While doing this drive I felt like taking 2 weeks off for road trip from San Francisco to San Diego through some of the most beautiful locations in California. I am sure it would be worth. Let's see if I would be able to materialize this plan or not.

If you liked this post and found it helpful, I would request you to follow these things when traveling -
1. Manage your waste well and don’t litter Use dustbins.
2. Tell us if you went to a place and found it hard to locate a dustbin.
3. Avoid bottle waters in hills. Usually you get clean water in hills and water bottles create lot of mess in our ecosystem.
4. Say big no to plastic and avoid those unhealthy snacks packed in plastic bags. Rather buy fruits.
5. Don't play loud blaring music in forests of jungle camps. You are a guest in that ecosystem and disturbing the locals (humans and animals) is not polite
