When we start talking about main places to visit and explore in Vizag city of South India, Kailashgiri certainly comes as one of the important places and is connected very well from different parts of the city. And probably one of the best places to have brilliant panoramic views of the city Vishakhapatanam. In this post, we will talk about various modes of commuting to Kailashgiri hill in Vizag and what you can do there. Apart from that I will also share some personal experiences which may influence your decision making process there.
Let's talk about the ways to reach Kailashgiri -
1. Toy Train
2. Taxi
3. Drive yourself
We visited Kailashgiri hill while coming back to Vizag from Araku valley. We had a weekend trip from Vizag to Araku valley and planned local sight-seeing around Vishakhpatanam city. Above photograph shows partial view of the main gate at Kailashgiri hill.
These huge statutes of lord Shiva & Parwati are probably one the most visited places on Kailashgiri hill. In 2003, Government of Andhra Pradesh awarded Kailasagiri as its "Best Tourist Spot".
There is a walk around the hill which exposes you to panoramic view of the ocean and the Vizag city.
This is the toy train that comes to Kailashgiri hill and takes a pause for lunch. It's a beautiful scene when this train roams around the hill and there are some seating places from where the train looks just awesome with ocean in the background.
There is an amusement park for the kids. We didn't go inside, so can't comment how good or bad it is. It was a weekend and there was not much crowd around this park. On average, around three hundred thousand Indian and foreign tourists visit the park every year. To protect the environment, VUDA has declared the hill a plastic-free zone. A cable car connects to the top of the hill, the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh.
Here is one of the views of the ocean from Kailashgiri hill. These floating boats in the ocean looked awesome and it seems this is a common scene everyday at Vizag. Initially we though we are lucky that we came on a day when so many of these boats are floating together in the ocean. It seems this is a special region around the coast where fishermen are more successful that other places around Vizag. I am yet to find more about why and how?
Kailasagiri is a hilltop park in the city of Visakhapatnam in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and this park was developed by the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) and comprises 380+ acres of land covered with flora and tropical trees. The hill, at 170+ metres height, overlooks the city of Visakhapatnam.
We spent around an hour roaming around the Kailashgiri Hill and then headed towards the lighthouse which is located around Dolphin's head peak in Vizag.
