If you have heard of the crookedest street in the world, I am also talking about the same. Last time I had visited this place in a car and didn't stop by. So I never clicked any photograph. Even this time, I am not happy with what I could click. Early morning or evenings are good times to visit this place for photography. Are you able to relate to above photograph. It's usually familiar to folks as this is one of the most popular tourist destinations in San Francisco City and you would have seen some photographs of this place through your network on facebook :). If not, let me take you through the journey of Lombard street, how we reached there, what all we did and why this place is so special.
Lombard Street is an east–west street in San Francisco with various ups and downs which is very common in San Francisco city. The particular portion of the street, we are talking is a steep, one-block section with eight sharp turns and green patches between each turn. In fact, in right season it looks pretty colorful. The famous one-block section, claimed to be "the crookedest street in the world", is located along the eastern segment in the Russian Hill neighborhood.
We walked from Union Square to Lombard Street and it was quite a walk through various uphill/downhill stretches with sharp steepness. More than the main street, I loved some of the other streets which offer amazing views of the roads going up and down, blue ocean views with Bay bridge going over it and skyscrapers of San Francisco. Again walking around a place offers you brilliant experiences in comparison to you travelling a any mode of transportation.
This street of San Francisco has been a major tourist attraction, receiving around 2 million visitors per year and up to 17,000 per day on busy summer weekends, as of 2015. The famous trolley line crosses through this block and many folks come here through cable car.
Above photograph shows the view when you descend from Lombard Street. There are stair around this curvy road, which take you down and if you go further down, you reach closer to Pier-39. You can also see Alkatraz in above photograph.
Above photograph of San Francisco cable car is clicked close to Lombard Street. It was ok experience being there in the month of Feb and during the middle of the day. Probably I had visited it earlier, so it was not very exciting for me and story would have been different if I would have got some cool shots here. Anyways, it makes sense to visit Lombard Street at least once, when you are in San Francisco.
