So let's start with some of the important to planning tips and then birding opportunities around Okhla Bird Sanctuary in Noida.

Let's talk about how to reach Okhla Bird Santuary : 1. Metro : Now there is a close-by Metro station and the entry gate of Okhla Bird Sanctuary is at walkable distance. And the name of the metro station is very intuitive - Okhla Bird Sanctuary Metro Station which is in Noida. 2. Taxi : You can book any cab based taxi and thats convenient as finding parking is tricky unless you follow my tips in the section below. 3. Car drive : If you want to drive to Okhla Bird Sanctuary in your own car, you need to chose one of the gates of Okhla Bird Sanctuary. One entry gate is on road which connects Shani Temple with Okhla Bird Sanctuary. This road is on the left when you are exiting Noida & entering into Delhi. This left cut is close to the entry gate of Noida city. If you go to this gate, there is parking space around roads because this road ends at the gate of Okhla Bird Sanctuary. If you chose to enter through other gate, you need to park at nearby metro station and then walk to the entry gate. 4. Certainly you can chose to have Auto-Rickshaw. 5. Bus : Any bus coming to Noida sector-37 from Sarita Vihar can drop you at Okhla Bird Sanctuary.

I visited Okhla Bird Santuary few years ago for first time in January with my office friends, during our photography course and that was first time when I realized that we have a very good place to explore in Noida. So on Sunday morning, we headed for the sanctuary which has an entry gate from Noida side. This gate is very close to Mahamaya Flyover. If you are coming from Kalindi Kunj, this gate will be on your left, but just before Mahamaya Flyover. It opens at 8am and closes at 5pm. We checked online and timings for Sunday were mentioned - 9am-3pm. We confirmed from the ticket counter and there is no change in timing on Sundays.

Okhla Bird Sanctuary is located on one side of Yamuna River. We took our car inside. Ticket for car is 100 Rs and it's 30 rs per person for a day. Just after entering we see these huge water patches on our left with different types of colorful birds floating around. Birds were comparatively less in the month of march but definitely you see major chunk of the water covered with birds during the month of Jan.

There is no shop inside if you need water or anything to eat, which in my opinion is good thing. So go prepared. You can carry water and stuff to eat. The only request I would make is that carry back the waste with you or put that in dustbin installed inside Okhla Bird Sanctuary.

One needs to walk a lot if you want to explore it well. Unlike Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, you won't find cycle rickshaws inside Okhla Bird Sanctuary.

Sorry for bad quality of photographs, as all of these are cropped versions from long distance shots. We noticed few Kingfishers around us and could capture one of them sitting on the long grass around water ponds. The whole Eco-system inside Okhla Bird Sanctuary kept us involved through one or other way. After a while we parked our car on the other extreme. There is a huge tree with few rooms inside the sanctuary, where we could park the car. From this point, we had two options to reach two different watch-towers.

If you liked this post and found it helpful, I would request you to follow these things when traveling - 1. Manage your waste well and don’t litter Use dustbins. 2. Tell us if you went to a place and found it hard to locate a dustbin. 3. Avoid bottle waters in hills. Usually you get clean water in hills and water bottles create lot of mess in our ecosystem. 4. Say big no to plastic and avoid those unhealthy snacks packed in plastic bags. Rather buy fruits. 5. Don't play loud blaring music in forests of jungle camps. You are a guest in that ecosystem and disturbing the locals (humans and animals) is not polite
