While going towards Jaco from San Jose city of Costa Rica, our guide made sure that we cross through Grande de Tarcoles river, which is known for it's Crocodiles with varied sizes. The more interesting fact is that you can easily see all these reptiles from a bridge and don't need to put lot of efforts to locate them. During our visit, we easily located a dozen of Crocodiles. Grande de Tarcoles River is a habitat for American crocodiles, while the marshes located at the river's mouth have many waterfowls and wading birds. Among the many herons and egrets are the boatbill and bare-throated tiger heron. Some of the other birds found here include double-striped thick-knee, mangrove warbler and American pygmy kingfisher.

Grande de Tarcoles River in Costa Rica originates on the southern slopes of the Cordillera Central volcanic range and flows in a south-westerly direction to the Gulf of Nicoya. This river is 111 kilometres long and is a source of water for many regions of Costa Rica.

Above photograph shows tourists walking over the bridge and looking at crocodiles of Grande de Tarcoles river. There is a huge space close to one end of the bridge where people park their vehicle and then walk over the bridge to look down and see these huge crocodiles. Are you wondering if that's the only thing one can do around Grande de Tarcoles. And the answer is yes and no. At same spot, yes and if you can drive around there are plenty of other options.
