If I have to claim, I would say Wat Pha Tao is best in Chiang Mai old city in terms of ambiance and especially in the evening. This teak marvel is located pretty close to Wat Chedi Luang.

The monastery is even special for celebrations during the Visakha Bucha festival which takes place in the month of May or June. That's the time when monks light hundreds of butter lamps around the pond in the grounds. Hot air lamps also take flight during that time and whole sky around Chiang Mai looks beautiful. It's not only monks but lot of Thai people lit up the sky during Visakha Bucha festival.
