While in Ahmedabad during Garba week, we got to know about this interesting night market near Law Ground of the town. We booked uber from our hotel after a very productive day around Modhera Sun Temple and Patan's Rani ki Vav. It hardly took us 20 minutes to reach the market and to our surprise, this was a very bright area of Ahmedabad city in Gujrat. This blogpost take you through Law Ground market and some interesting facts.

There is this one road which is full of road-side shops selling colorful chaniya-choli during Garba nights. I tried to ask if that's what is sold throughout the year or it's seasonal. I sensed that it was mainly because of Navratri celebrations, when lot of people buy Chaniya Choli and that's how people dress before going to Garba grounds across the state. Lot of folks from outside Ahmedabad come to the city to do Garba shopping. Shops remain their and then they change the stocks and focus on things which are in demand throughout the year and certainly keep changing as per weather & seasons.

We didn't do any shopping at Law Ground Night Market but sensed that one needs to do lot of negotiation. And it seems that stuff is available pretty cheap but you have huge scope of brining the price down.

Law garden street is a happening place in western Ahmedabad which attracts people from far away places and other cities to spend evening/night with friends, family to do bargain purchase of Gujarati ethnic wears like Chaniya Choli for females as well as traditional dresses for men and kids. 5pm onwards people start coming to this open air display of artistic clothing and accessories. Apart from traditional cloths, you would find shops selling silver jewellery. Close to these shops you would find vendors selling indian fast food like Pani Puri, Pau bhaji, sandwiches, south Indian food, ice-creams, kulfies, Pizza etc. Vibha & I observed that somehow sandwitch & Pizzas are very popular in Ahmedabad. The market is on till 11pm or little late at times.

During Garba nights there are quite a few Garba celebration grounds around Law Garden and at times the place has even more shopping opportunity, as special markets are setup to shop handicraft stuff from different parts of the country. Law street is a street shopping place for both traditional and western attire each occupying one side of the road, although scenario changes as per demand of the time, season or weather. The traditional section features Gujarati dresses like chania choli, salwar, dupatta etc in all kinds of colorful combinations best for festivals like Navratri. Price ranges from Rs 800-1500 depending on the type of material, border work and your negotiation skills, which is probably needed for doing shopping around Law Ground Street. The western side also has a variety of items including sandals for fixed Rs 100 and junk jewelry at reasonable rates.

Law Ground Night market gets pretty crowded during evening and night, so if you are someone who takes time to do their selection do come a bit early, although the real fun of exploring the market is in evening. Overall, a decent place to spend your evening shopping and eating in Ahmedabad. After spending some time around this market we headed to the biggest Garba ground in Ahmedabad and that was the main goal. Law Market was on our way so we thought of spending few minutes here as well.

It's little chaotic given both sides of the road are covered by tehse shops and lot of walk around the shops. Traffic jam during evenings is common in this part of Ahmedabad. Taking uber/taxi from Law Ground was painful for us. Hardly any auto was able to stop and ubers were also stuck in traffic. It took quite some time for us to find an auto to go to Garba ground from Law Ground Night Market.
