My first experience of Gujrat roads was not the one I had in my head. In early days of this blog, we used to talk a lot of roads, road conditions, routes, and relevant details for people who love planning/doing road-trips. After a long time we are sharing something which you may not hear very often. During our trip to Ahmedabad, Patan, Modhera, Vadodara etc, we only came across one good road which is Expressway connecting Ahmedabad to Vadodara. Most of the other highways & roads had big potholes and it was extremely hard for your cab to go beyond 50 kilometers per hour with few exceptions. Let's go into details of each road connecting with Ahmedabad & understand the state.
Road condition from Ahmedabad to Patan through Modhera :
Our first day plan to drive to Patan to see the famous Rani ki Vav which can also be seen on Indian currency - on 100 rupees note. and plan was to drive through Adalaj ni Vav and Modhera Sun temple. This whole stretch had lot of whole on highway and local roads were least maintained if you compare maintenance of Highways of Gujrat vs local roads. There are certainly exceptions in main cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara & Gandhinagar but in rest of the state local roads are not maintained well. On Highway, at some places major work was going on and seemed pretty slow. This construction work always impact condition or roads. But there were patches on Highway where no construction but still big holes. You can't drive fast as it can life threatening if you hit any of these big holes as cars can easily topple and hit other vehicles on the highway. We also saw a major accident on this highway although can't conclude that it was only because of potholes on the roads.

Road condition from Patan to Gandhinagar :
Patan to Gandhinagar highway was equally bad as shared above and the worst part was that at random place this highway becomes single lane and at some places it's 3 lane. There is a stretch close to Palan where all stones were coming out of the road and you can't make out if the road is built of charcoal, or cement or yet to build.

Road condition from Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad :
Apart from Expressway, we found a very few tolls even on national highways and I was wondering why? I love this part about Rajasthan where even local roads have tolls, but roads are fantastic to drive and enjoy your travel even better.

Roads conditions within Gandhinagar :
Gandhinagar roads are pretty good as that's a must given it's capital of the state. We went to Aksharmdham Temple and Gandhi Temple. Roads around this part of the city were very well maintained and other part I liked is appropriate greenly in this part of the city. Good roads and green landscapes certainly lot of difference to your travel experience.

Roads conditions within Ahmedabad :
Ahmedabad roads are reasonably good and maintained well. Some of the parts have fantastic roads and you feel like driving in a very high quality city. Roads around Narmada river are built pretty well and with appropriate measures. Again there are parks built around these roads which make these even more beautiful.
Older part of the city also has well maintained roads, although driving in old city would be very challenging given traffic situations and these roads are narrower comparatively.

Expressway condition connecting Ahmedabad with Vadodara :
Expressway is the best road we saw in Gujrat and it was awesome to drive on this road, but if you want to go somewhere else, there are limited exits so make sure that Expressway is right choice. For example, when we had to visit Lothal we took other route which was the worst road we saw in Gujrat. And I am not talking about local roads around Lothal but highway which connects Lothal with Vadodara.
On this Expressway 2 wheelers are not seen often - not very sure

Road condition from Ahmedabad to Vadodara via Lothal :
Overall I had heard a lot of about good roads of Gujrat roads but unfortunately I couldn't bring back the same feelings from my 4 days trips to Gujrat State.
