Recently I visited The Westin Resorts in Sohna for a Business offsite. It was a 2 days/1 night event with very packed agenda/schedule. This blog shares some of the experiences about the property by keeping business related stuff aside and how the experience was to stay in this property in National Capital Region of India. In this blogpost you will figure out why this place can be a great place for quick weekend break with kids and why it's not ideal for families who want to spend some extended time with family along with exploring something new. Let's get started.
Let's first talk about the location of The Westin Sohna Resorts and Spa and how to reach it from different parts of National Capital Region of India which mainly comprise - Noida, Gurgaon, Delhi, Faridabad, Ghaziabad etc.

It's located in a remote location around Sohna and surrounded by few villages & green farms. I drove from Noida and came via Faridabad. After Faridabad, I had to take a narrow road which connected Faribadabad with The Westin Sohna Resorts is narrow but relatively better maintained. Although last stretch of 3-4 kilometers is pretty bad and this is the last stretch. Map at times confuses you when you reach close to the property so better keep asking people you see on road-side. There are 2 roads leading to the property and one of them is pretty bad/scary. So far, I was little worried how this place would be as the location is pretty odd and reaching here needs an effort & patience.

The reception at The Westin Resorts Sahna doesn't really impress you, especially when you have reached the place after a long & tiring ride. But things start changing as you enter inside the Resort & start exploring the space. Just a disclaimer that above photograph is not reception but area around Lake maintained by The Westin Resort. More details about the lake are shared below.

The Westin Resorts also has a small zoo with Rabbits, Guenia Pigs, Guenia Fowls, Hens, Emus, Turkeys, horses, goose etc. Above photograph shows some of the Guenia Fowls walking inside the resort during sunrise time.

One can also enjoy horse riding at The Westin Resorts Sohna, although I am not sure how skilled staff they have to ensure that it's safe for guests who may not be expert at it. Just across this horse stable, there is a cricket ground where guests can enjoy the game. The Westin Resort in Sohna is popular for corporate events and for them Cricket ground makes sense. Otherwise it's hard to have such big family group, although I know families who have planned staycations in big groups as well.

On a clear day, one can see stars from this location. The Westin Resort & Spa has dedicated area inside the resort which has negligible lighting. One can walk to this part of the green landscape to enjoy stars in much better way. We walked to this part of the resort and spent few minutes. Fortunately the day the clear and hence there were plenty of stars in the sky. Since this place is little away from crowded cities and surrounded by lot of greens, the air quality in general is much better. Which certainly makes lot of difference. Otherwise it's extremely hard to expect visible stars from Noida/Delhi with some exceptions during Monsoons or some other sunny days with very less pollution.

During night time, all walking pathways are lit well with these stone carved lamps. They look beautiful in The Westin resorts and makes the space more magical. These lamps give just enough light so that one can walk comfortably while enjoying starry views up in the sky.

There is also a kids area with various play-zones which is maintained pretty well. Close to the kids area, there is a lawn-tennis court as well.

Food at The Westin Resort Sohna is pretty good in terms of variety, taste and quality of service. Especially I loved the breakfast buffet, which had great variety. The seating arrangement in breakfast area is superb. We were lucky to have sunny day, so had our meals under sun which is rare to do in Delhi-NCR.

There is lake close to the resort which is maintained by The Westin. Why do I say, close to the resort and not inside the resort? Technically it's not inside the resort. One has to exit from one of the gates and walk for 50 meters to see this lake. There is always a security guard at this gate who ensures that only Guests enter into the resort after visiting this lake. Although lake is place very close to a public road/path, and we were wondering how Westin ensures security/safety of guests. It was little weird to find this lake outside the boundary of the resort.

There are some beautiful sculptures installed all across the green areas of the Westin resort in Sohna.
By now you must have figured that ambiance of the space is very special and it suddenly takes you away from noisy cities. I never appreciated an outing to a resort which is close to the city as I always like to travel to different places and then chose the place to stay. But this kind of space can be a good break for anybody like me who goes through hectic week with very fast paced activities with no time to relax and appreciate surroundings. And the surroundings at The Westin can be very rejuvenating.

Let's also talk a little about cost of spending a weekend at The Westin Resorts in Sohna. Personally I find it expensive by considering all goodness in terms of food, service, luxury. It's little over-priced and that's what you need to pay for brand. There are plenty of resorts around Gurgaon/Greater-Noida where one can have a very fulfilling family staycation at lesser cost and not much different in terms things you expect/need.
