Capitola - A beautiful city full of surprises around the coast in Santa Cruz County of California, USA
While driving towards Big Sur from Redwood City in San Francisco Bay area, we took our first stop at Capitola to meet other group who had reached early and wanted to have breakfast around this place. So we didn't only stop for the breakfast, but also thought of taking a walk around the coast and explore this small but happening town in California. Brightly colored Venetian Village cottages are a landmark on the sand next to the wharf. And down below the wharf are kayaks for rent. Kayakers can launch the vessels from the wharf via a set of attached steps to a connected small platform where they are launched.

For most of the time when we were in Capitola, we were walking from one part of the town to other and beaches were following us. It was great to see such beautiful views with families enjoying their weekend around these waves of pacific ocean. Since this town is relatively quiet, people get enough place in beaches to take proper care of their infants, pets and families.

Capitola looks more like any European village with its pastel buildings and it's shoreline dotted with cafes patio umbrellas etc. There are lot of art shops in Capitola town and beautifully decorated from inside as well as outside. Above photograph shows hanging flower basket in one of the art galleries.

Usually there are some events during the weekends. It was Saturday when we visited Capitola and it was Art & Wine festival going on. Whole town was full of wine lovers with wine glasses in their hands. People had their own glasses and they were trying different wines created by locals who run small wine businesses.

Apart from that bigger wine brands were also present in the festival for promotional activities. There were bunch of art kiosks all around the town.

Capitola is also a popular destination for surfing enthusiasts. Surfers ply the waves that come around Capitola. Because of interesting wave patterns, Capitola is one of the region’s favourite surfing destinations.

Capitola in Santa Cruz county feels like a special hideaway around the Pacific Ocean. The pier of Capitola is rarely crowded, leaving plenty of privacy for a peaceful stroll or picnic lunch on one of the wooden benches.

I loved these colorful houses which are right around the beaches and visible form Capitola Warf. Looks like holiday homes where people come for longer durations and spend quality time with families. A little far from this place, we could notice some families enjoying barbecue by the beach.

We were in the town for about 45 minutes and spent good amount of time around Capitola Warf. Plan of the day was to go to Monterey, have lunch there. After that we went to Big Sur and then Garrapata State Park.

While we were walking back from beach area to the center of the town, we crossed a bridge through which this beautiful creek was visible. We could see lot of boats parked outside those colorful houses around the shoreline.
While walking around the Capitola Warf, we noticed lot of people indulged in fishing. And not only at the warf but there were few boats inside the water hunting big fish. This area seemed quite rich in terms of sea-food. One can enjoy fresh sea food in one of the many restaurants around the these beaches of Capitola.
