Raj Niwas - Book the whole hotel around Lake Pichola of Udaipur, if you are looking for an accommodation for 3 families with a private party space with stunning panoramic views in City of Lakes
During our recent trip to Rajasthan, we stayed in a small hotel around Lake Pichola of Udaipur. We will certainly share a detailed review of this hotel, but this blogpost is to be straightforward and very targeted for groups planning a trip to Udaipur & looking for 3 rooms. Why do I say so? We were 3 families who booked Raj Niwas & stayed there for 3 nights during new year. And I can confidently say that we had one of the best stay experiences we could have expected in Udaipur at the price we got the deal. So let's start with key reasons and why I highly recommend and at the end I have also covered, what if you are only looking for 1 or 2 rooms at Raj Niwas.
Raj Niwas has a beautiful location around Lake Pichola and most of the main places to explore in Udaipur are nearby. Some key things about Raj Niwas Hotel :
1. Raj Niwas is few yards away from Lal Ghat of Lake Pichola and next to Monsoon cafe. Lake is visible from the hotel*.
2. Best place to explore in Udaipur, City Palace, is located at walking distance from Raw Niwas hotel.
3. There are lot of good restaurants around Raj Niwas hotel in Udaipur. One of the most famous restaurant Ambrai is visible from Raj Niwas & is at walkable distance. We enjoyed our dinner at Ambrai on 1st Jan, as we preferred to party on the terrace of Raj Niwas on 31st dec night.
4. If you love shopping and especially Rajasthani colourful handicraft, you have so many options in streets around Raj Niwas.
5. Raj Niwas hotel in Udaipur is located very close to famous Jagdish temple.
6. I can almost guarantee that it will be hard to find such spacious rooms at this rate around Lake Pichola in Udaipur. Each floor has one room only and hence much spacious than we expected. That certainly enhance your stay experience.
7. If you have booked all 3 rooms, you have personal party place on terrace and that's a great advantage in city like Udaipur. Above photograph shows the terrace. We made good use of this space during our stay. We used to spend whole evening here and ordered food from nearby restaurant. Main staff, Jassu has been very helpful in arranging whatever we needed during our stay at Raj Niwas.
8. Raj Niwas is one of the best places to witness Udaipur Sunset with Lake Pichola in the foreground. Above photograph is clicked from terrace of Raj Niwas. We shall share a separate blogpost with photographs of sunsets from Udaipur.
8. Raj Niwas is a very well maintained hotel and credit goes to Jassu who maintains this property. You will find the space clean most of the times. Jassu is little particular about not keeping lights on when you are not in room and that makes lot of sense for energy conservation as well as cost saving.
9. Nights around Raj Niwas is a very interesting experience. Even if you want to chose another hotel to stay, I would recommend to find something around Lake Pichola. Most of the big hotels are beautifully lit during the evening and view from Raj Niwas terrace used to be stunning. On 31st Dec night, we were having our celebrations at Raj Niwas terrace while enjoying live music from near by hotels and some fireworks :).
Hope above details help you in understanding that Raj Niwas is a great place to stay in Udaipur and if you have to book 3 rooms, it's almost perfect place as you get whole property with you and that too around Lake Pichola with great views from Terrace.
What if, you don't need all 3 rooms at Raj Niwas hotel of Udaipur?
This is not the place if you need more than 3 rooms as hotel only has 3 rooms - one on each floor.
If you need less than 3 rooms, you have to share terrace with other guests and it's hard to describe what could be other challenges as we used the space as a second home :).
Which rooms to pick at Raj NIwas if you want to book 1 or 2 rooms only?
- If you only need one room, go for the one on 3rd floor. It's little expensive because of overall space and amenities. This is the only room which has balcony which offers views of Lake Pichola.
- Rooms on first and second floor have windows opening towards the street which doesn't have anything interesting. Most of the times you will keep the curtains on.
Potential drawbacks, you may want to know ( These didn't bother me and I won't care about them too much. ) :
- Food : Raj Niwas doesn't have a restaurant. Breakfast to Raj Niwas comes from another hotel Raj Palace. There is a kitchen on terrace which is used for making tea, maggie, omelettes etc. So if there is something like poori bhaji, you will not be able to enjoy fresh poori on table :) . You need to figure out other plans for lunch and dinner, which is not a challenge as there are plenty of options around this place. You can also order and Jassu will help in receiving the parcel & heat in the kitchen if needed.
- Car Parking : There is no possibility to bring your car near Raj Niwas hotel, if you are driving in your car to Udaipur. Having said that, hotel owner has another property nearby where we parked our cars. I am sure they have arrangements for more parking during main season when both of the hotels are full. But this is one thing you may want to confirm before making booking.
- Main window of all rooms open towards the street and not towards the lake. ( That's mainly a disadvantage to rooms on first & second floor, which doesn't have balcony or window to see the lake. Option is to go to the terrace and enjoy stunning views of the lake while sipping tea.)
