Sunset views from the Orchha Wildlife Sanctuary, Orchha, Madhya Pradesh || A perfect conclusion to the day watching the majestic sun set behind the stunning Orchha Chhatris
One of my favorite memories from our trip to Orchha is of us sitting on the banks of the Betwa river, at the edge of Orchha Wildlife Sanctuary, and watching the sun set behind the majestic Chhatris that were built by the mighty Bundela Kings to commemorate their ancestors.

This was one advantage of doing some research before the trip. Without prior knowledge that such a spot exists in Orchha, there doesn't seem any good reason to cross the narrow, parapet-less bridge across the river Betwa to reach the wildlife sanctuary. The wildlife sanctuary itself has some wildlife but no big carnivores to make it an attractive-enough destination. Let's face it. most of us only visit wildlife sanctuaries to see carnivores.
While the day was hot, the evening on the banks of the river was pleasant. However, the sky was clear and those of us who like photographing sunset, know that clear skies often do not make for dramatic sunsets. However, there's not much one can do about what nature decides to gift you on any particular day. One must learn how to be grateful for our blessings. It was a clear day, but at least we were able to see the sun set.

The Chhatris in themselves are beautiful structures, even up close. The Mystery that surrounds them and the fact that they still stand tall in the memory of rulers who once upheld the pride of Bundela Dynasty makes one look at them with a lot of admiration and respect. And now imagine the majestic sun go down behind them, and you will know that this short trip to the wildlife sanctuary is still worth it.
