It gives immense happiness when great theatre actors get onto the screen and especially those who have worked in theatre for long a time & inspired many to follow this art-form. Sukumar Tudu is such theatre artist from National School of Drama who will be seen on OTT platform soon and that too in a very significant role in Maharani-2. I am eagerly waiting for weekend to start watching Maharani-2 to see Mr Tudu on screen.
Last weekend, I was in NSD and met him over tea. Both Vibha and I spent good amount of time with him after a long time. Pandemic has changed a lot of things around Mandi house but it was good to see the hustle bustle of theatre artists coming back around NSD, Kamanai, LTG and Sriram centre.
Sukumar Tudu is a great human being and fantastic actor. I have been going to National School of Drama for last 15 years now and he is one of those actors, who has been helpful in suggesting good plays, helping in arranging permissions to click photographs in plays. I have watched him in numerous plays where he play diverse roles. It's hard to describe all Sukumar Tudu does in theatre scene. He is not only a theatre actor, but a mentor as well as administrator. I am not completely sure what part of it he likes the most or dislikes but what I know is that artists like him inspire many in society to watch theatre, learn theatre and influence culture, society in many ways.
I will not be able to write much about his role in Maharani-2, as I am yet to watch but if you see trailer it's very clear that he is playing a significant role in this series as Dulari, who is one of the MLAs and this whole show is all about politics. So let's see what kind of role Mr Tudu is going to play. Like Sukumar Tudu, many NSD artists have been reaching new heights in the field of theatre, acting, movies and entertainment. and not only that, many of them are choosing create their own path in their own unique way. Some of the fantastic examples are Pankaj Tripathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Manoj Vajpai and the list is long & it will be hard for me to list everyone. In fact, many NSD artists are part of Maharani and Maharani-2.
I feel this is just beginning and you will see Sukumar Tudu in many shows/moviews going forward and that too in significant roles. Like many NSD artists you see on screen too often these days. One of the most prominent NSD artists is Rajesh Tailang who has worked in some of the most successful OTT series in last few years. Tomorrow he is also coming again on Netflix show "Delhi Crime 2"
