Hotel Gokulam and Golden Minerva Coffee Cafe in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, India || The town that provided us great food and a comfortable night stay
On Day 3, when we landed in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, after a really long drive and some last minute change in plans, we were really tired. And then we were also not sure whether the hotel we had identified on the internet would meet the priority 0 items in our list of requirements for night stays. Luckily it did. And we felt that we had earned a dinner. So we went out in search for it.
Luckily, we didn't have to venture too far. Just a few 100 meters from our hotel was a little family run restaurant known as Hotel Gokulam. It was serving simple South Indian dishes, such as Dosas, Idlis, Vadas etc. Exactly what we needed.
Initially there was language problem, but the person at the cash counter sensed that we were having trouble conveying what we wanted. So he ensured that we were able to come close to the counter (there was a crowd of people ahead of us) and guided us mostly through Telugu interspersed with some English. We ordered our dosas and then moved back, waiting for the food to be ready.
And it was ready in no time. He ensured that we knew when our food was ready. Even though the restaurant was crowded, people made space for us. We relished our dosas feeling completely at home among strangers. It helped that the dosas were tasty too.
The restaurant did not serve coffee, so we decided to search for it. And once again this shop was a few meters from Hotel Gokulam. And it seems that it was quite a popular place too. There were several youngsters hanging out and people who were probably on their way back from their work, had stopped on the way for a cup of coffee.
And the coffee too turned out to be quite good. Overall, both these places defined the experience of our brief stay at Madanapalle. Overall, even though this small area of Madanapalle was our only feel of the place, but we still recall this town with fondness, because it provided us a relaxed, comfortable night stay after a tiring day.
