iPhones vs Android Phones in 2023 - Functional differences, Camera capabilities and other perceptions about these 2 categories of smartphones

 I thought I will quickly write down about this experience as I don't see this consideration in India. Many feel that iphones are always cost effective if someone can bring them one from the US. Well, this is not true. I am writing this blogpost when iPhone 14 is latest model and 13 is one model old. First let me put down some facts and then summarise why I claim that it's better to buy iPhone in India instead of USA. 1. Cost of iPhone 13 right now is almost the same in India and USA. There is higher probability that you will find better deals on iPhone13 in India than USA. 2. When people look at iPhone price in USA, they forget to account tax which is above the price mentioned on Apple website or Apple stores. It varies from one state to other in USA. 3. India you get great deals on certain Credit Cards and above that you also gain decent number of points on Credit card when buying through certain stores, which is much more than points you gain through using the same credit card on other stores/sites. For example - On https://smartbuy.myimaginestore.com/, HDFC credit card holder get lucrative discounts plus 5x points than usual. 4. Related to above point - The benefit you will see for latest model vs one model old is different. It's worth considering that. 5. At times, models you get in USA vs India are different. For example, in USA you get iphone 14 with esim option only while India you get iphone14 with physical sim. 6. If you know someone in Apple, you can get 15% discount. 7. The way Dollar is getting stronger, you will lesser benefit of buying iPhones in USA over time. So overall, consider all these points and do proper calculations before making a decision of buying an iPhone in USA or not. and most important is that when you will consider buying iPhone in India, you can buy the moment you need to upgrade your phone. Many times we get into a mode of buying a device in USA because we are travelling or some known is travelling there :). So if delta is not significant prefer buying the product in India instead of USA. I recently bought iPhone 13 in USA and all I saved is 2K, which is nothing. and probably we lost because I could have got better deals on my credit card in specific stores in India. Anyways, the idea is to do homework before making a decision and saving is not much consider buying in India. And its very clear that there is no point of buying older models in USA.

The perception that the iPhone is superior to Android phones is subjective and depends on individual preferences and priorities. While some users may prefer the iPhone's design, operating system, and user interface, others may prefer the flexibility and customisation options offered by Android phones.

However, some reasons why some people might consider the iPhone to be superior to Android phones include:

1. User Experience: Apple has a reputation for providing a more intuitive and streamlined user experience. The iPhone's operating system is known for being easy to use, with consistent design and functionality across all devices. Although it's very debatable topic because of lot of subjectivity around the term "user experience". It's more like Nikon cameras vs Canon cameras and you will find fan following for both the brands. So at times this becomes a subjective viewpoint. Not to ignore that most of the common user experience paradigms are common in Android and iPhone is also following Android in many ways. Pick any new user experience in last 5 years and you will see the trend that iPhones are lagging behind. Although all those can be justified by debating that iOS introduces everything by keeping security in mind and beyond that debate becomes harder :). 

2. Security and Privacy: Apple is known for its strong emphasis on security and privacy. The iOS operating system is designed with a focus on protecting user data and keeping devices secure from malware and other threats.

3. App Store: The App Store on the iPhone is known for its rigorous vetting process, which helps to ensure that apps are safe and reliable. Apple's strict guidelines for developers also help to maintain a high standard of quality for apps available on the platform.

4. Hardware: Apple is known for designing high-quality hardware, with a focus on aesthetics and build quality. The iPhone's camera, display, and battery life are all highly regarded.

Disclaimer : I am an iPhone user for last 5 years and before that I have used multiple Android phones. I have added some of the personal reasons to move to iPhone and now also debating if I should switch back to Android or not and when? 


Android phones are preferred over iPhones by some users for several reasons, including:


1. Customization: Android offers a higher level of customization than iOS, allowing users to modify the interface, install custom ROMs, and tweak settings to better fit their needs.


2. Affordability: While high-end Android devices can be just as expensive as iPhones, there are also many affordable Android phones available in the market, making them accessible to a wider range of consumers.


3. Diversity: Android phones are produced by a variety of manufacturers, such as Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Google, each offering their own unique designs and features. This allows users to choose from a wide range of devices with different hardware specs and price points.


4. Openness: Android is an open-source operating system, meaning that users have greater freedom to access and modify the underlying code. This can lead to a more open and collaborative development process, as well as greater innovation and experimentation.


5. Integration with Google Services: Android is developed by Google and offers seamless integration with a range of Google services, such as Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Maps, making it a popular choice for users who rely heavily on these services.


Ultimately, the choice between an Android phone and an iPhone will depend on individual preferences and priorities, and both platforms have their own strengths and weaknesses.


iPhones are generally more expensive than Android phones due to a combination of factors, including:


1. Brand Value: Apple is a highly regarded and globally recognized brand that has developed a reputation for producing premium products with a focus on design and innovation. As a result, Apple is able to charge a premium for its products due to the perceived value of its brand.


2. R&D and Materials Costs: Apple invests heavily in research and development (R&D) to create new products and technologies, as well as to improve existing ones. In addition, Apple uses high-quality materials in the construction of its products, such as aerospace-grade aluminum, ceramic, and sapphire crystal. These factors contribute to the higher cost of producing iPhones compared to many Android phones.


3. Operating System: Apple's iOS operating system is proprietary and developed in-house, while Android is an open-source operating system that can be used by a wide range of manufacturers. Developing and maintaining a proprietary operating system requires significant investment and resources, which can contribute to the higher cost of iPhones.


4. Marketing and Distribution: Apple spends a significant amount of money on marketing and advertising to promote its products, as well as on distribution and logistics to ensure that its products are widely available.


Ultimately, the decision to purchase an iPhone or an Android phone will depend on individual needs and preferences, including budget, features, and ecosystem preferences.


It's worth noting that for some people, the iPhone may be considered a status symbol or a statement piece, in the same way that a luxury watch or designer handbag might be. The popularity of the iPhone and its association with premium brands and high-end technology can contribute to this perception.

  Dalhousie is one of the most popular Hill Stations in Himachal  and there is lot to explore around Dalhousie. This is small and very well maintained town in Chamba region of Himachal Pradesh . This Photo Journey shares some of the exciting places around Chamba and how to plan a good one day tour through Khajjiar, Chamba & Chamera etc. CHAMERA HYDROLIC PROJECT Chamera Hydroelectric Project is located in Banikhet, 7 kms from Dalhousie. The water body near the lake is very scenic and is a popular boating spot. Chamera Dam is around 40 kilometers from Chamba Town. It takes approximately 1.5 hrs to reach the place is road condition is good. Overall it’s a little dry terrain as compared to Dalhousie and Khajjiar. And temperature also goes up as we go towards Chamera Dam.  As you move out from Chamba town, you follow Ravi river for some time and then take right. After 45 minutes of drive, you get a glimpse of Chemera Dam.
