Hotel Kaveri Inn in Markapur, Andhra Pradesh || A humble hotel for a good night rest before crossing over to Srisailam
When we were travelling from Pulicat toward Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh during our 14-Day road trip from Noida to Rameshwaram and back via Eestern Ghats, we realized that we will probably run into a minor issue. Since Srisailam is surrounded by the Nallamala Forest, for the safety of the pilgrims, forest guards close the entry into the forest area from 9PM to 6AM. And we would need to cross the forest.
Since it did not seem like we would be able to reach the entry gates by 9PM, we thought it prudent to spend the night somewhere before the entrance to the forest. Google search revealed that Markapur is probably the best place. We decided to proceed toward the town. We expected to be driving on smooth well-paved and well-lit roads. And we were hoping to come across some hotels on the road side. However, both these hopes were dashed. The road turned out to be dark and under construction and there was no sign of any buildings, let alone hotels, on the road side.
When we reached Markapur, it turned out to be a small town with narrow lanes. We were worried that we will end up getting our car stuck somewhere and wouldn't be able to find a way out. Instead of Google Maps, once again we decided to rely upon local wisdom. We asked a man sitting on his porch about a suitable hotel and once again, received the right guidance. He pointed us to a street a couple of blocks away where we would be able to find a couple of hotels.
When we managed to find the street, we discovered that there were only 2-3 options. So we chose the one that looked the best out of them. The room was average, but the linen was clean. And we also found a safe and decent parking right across the road. The person at the reception was very interested in our itinerary, though he wasn't aware about the tiger safari near Srisailam, or the lack of it.
After checking in, we went out into the market for dinner. We found a couple of shops selling idli and chutney. We got some packed, bought a soft drink and headed back to the hotel. The idli and chutney was delicious and comforting. I think it was on this trip when I first started associating idli and chutney with comfort.
