How Himachali Residents in non-Himachali car can Avoid Green and Entry Taxes in Manali and Lahaul with Aadhar Card

Getting to Sissu Thanks to the Atal Tunnel, Sissu is just 30 kilometers from Manali. The road to Sissu is smooth and scenic, making it accessible by car or bike throughout the year.

Himachali residents driving cars with non-Himachal Pradesh registration can save on Green Tax in Manali and Entry Tax in Lahaul Valley by presenting proof of local residency, such as an Aadhar Card with a Himachali address. We didn't know this on time, and hence sharing here. We were driving UP 16 number car though I belong to Himachal.

These fees are generally charged at specific checkpoints:

Green Tax Booth in Manali: Located at entry points into Manali, this tax aims to regulate the environmental impact from external vehicles entering the region.

Lahaul Entry Tax: Charged near Sissu after crossing the Atal Tunnel, this fee helps manage the inflow of tourist traffic and maintain local infrastructure.

This exemption allows local residents to travel freely without additional expenses, promoting convenient travel for locals while ensuring effective management of high tourist influx, especially during peak seasons.

Some showed low confidence in what I am sharing here but I would say that it's worth trying than assuming that everyone has to pay those taxes.
